Nepal operation 2026

Operational snapshot: Nepal floods

Overview

Following the devastating flash floods in northern Nepal on 26 August, the UNHRD network coordinated a multi-hub response to rapidly support national authorities and humanitarian partners delivering assistance to the communities affected by the disaster.

Through its hubs in Dubai and Kuala Lumpur, UNHRD dispatched a total of 116 MT of humanitarian relief cargo on behalf of 5 partners (ECHO, International Federation of Red Cross, ShelterBox, Tsu chi foundation and WFP).

The total shipment included WFP fortified food and non-food relief items, such as health supplies, tents, kitchen sets, winterization kits and Temperature Sensitive Logistics equipment. The assistance provided was expected to support approximately 10,000 beneficiaries.

Operations from Dubai were made possible through the generous support of Dubai Humanitarian and Airlink, which offered free of cost transportation for 35.3 MT of ShelterBox relief items. In addition, 5.7 MT of WFP fortified biscuits stored in the UNHRD Dubai warehouse were moved right after the disaster hit on a charter flight organized and sponsored by UAE Aid.

The contribution of the European Commission's Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) was also critical to the overall response through the activation of an EU Humanitarian Air Bridge (EUHAB) operation, enabling UNHRD to mobilize 67.3 MT of partner relief items prepositioned at its Kuala Lumpur hub.
